Design + Nature: ARC's International Wildlife Crossing Infrastructure Design Competition

A video on a design competition to build the best wildlife crossing for a highway in Colorado. It's 12 min long but definitely worth a look. This can definitely apply to many parts of the world (including large parts of Canada).

I especially like the multi-disciplinary nature of how the different design teams came up with a potential solution. Ecologists, engineers and landscape architects (just to name a few), came together to propose a design. More of the world's problems need this type of design collaboration.

Interesting indeed....the concept of a wild crossing is quite intriguing - something I hadn't actually thought of before as an issue (not just for the safety of animals/people, but the financial implications on the transport economies as well).

Wikipedia has a nice entry on the topic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildlife_crossing
